League Notes:

Special Notes Due to the Pandemic:


·      In accordance with the provincial government’s September 1 announcement, all members entering an indoor venue MUST show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 (exact details to be released closer to the start of the season)


  • The exact start and end dates may have to be changed based on any possible restrictions.
  • If required, we will delay the start of a season by up to 4 weeks (If it is longer than that, we would contact teams to make sure they still want to play in the delayed season)
  • Given the venue closures announced in early Jan 2022, upcoming seasons may be shortened
  • If we have to shorten the season, all registration will be given a pro-rated refund (you would only pay for weeks scheduled)
  • Some aspects before, after or during the game may have to be augmented to comply with provincial restrictions
  • If, for whatever reason, the season does not happen at all, all registrations will be refunded in full
  • The season may be paused if health restrictions change and then started up again when the health restrictions are changed back
  • If the season cannot be finished due to restrictions changing after starting the season, and the season has not reached the halfway point, all registrations will be given a prorated refund minus an admin fee of $25 per registration
  • If the season cannot be finished due to restrictions changing after starting the season, and the season has reached the halfway point, all registrations will be given a prorated credit minus an admin fee of $25 per registration 
  • All players will have to be on the roster before playing (which is always the rule but it will be strictly enforced for the purpose of contact tracing)


  • 12 week season (10 regular season games plus 2 playoffs)
  • The top 4 teams play for the championship BUT all teams get 2 weeks of play in the playoffs
  • Games are played with 5 players on each side [4 forwards and a goalie]
  • Unlike most other Average Joe Sports Club leagues, there are NO requirements for females. Females are welcome, but they should be prepared to play against mostly males
  • Players can opt to wear protective gear such as helmets, shin pads, hockey gloves, mouth guards and/or eye-wear.
  • Games are 55 mins in length
  • In regular season games, ties are allowed - no overtime or shoot-out.
  • A league convener will be present. However, infractions must be called by players on the court.
  • Only DOM Hockey sticks and DOM goalie sticks fitted with plastic blades will be allowed. Dom Vision, Pro & Elite sticks are acceptable. No wood or composite.
  • Goalies should supply their own equipment. Average Joe will provide the necessary equipment to have games played like the balls and nets. Average Joe will also provide a few DOM hockey sticks as well as one set of goalie equipment [i.e. mask, goalie pads, goalie stick, blocker, glove]. All equipment will be issued by a first come first served basis.
  • This is NOT competitive hockey, there is NO body contact. Overly aggressive players will be asked to leave the league.
  • All Registration fees are subject to HST
  • Your spot is not guaranteed until you have paid
  • No refunds on league registrations
